THE RUNDOWN RUNS AWAY WITH BOX OFFICE

It’s More Than an Action Flick, More Than a Comedy—And It Stars A Wrestler
You don’t have to be a wrestler to have the #1 movie in America, but it apparently helps as Dwayne Johnson, known to wrestling aficionados as The Rock, took home the belt for his latest film, The Rundown, with $18.5 million.

On the opposite end of the spectrum was the #2 film, Diane Lane’s Under the Tuscan Sun, a chick-flick about giving it all up for the simple life in Italy, which drew $9.4 million on a higher per-screen average than Rundown. Oh, if only we could all buy a place in Tuscany and meet the person of our dreams…

The weekend’s only other opening was the Ben Stiller/Drew Barrymore-starring The Duplex, which landed in seventh with $4.6 million. Oh, if only we could all buy a place in Manhattan and try to kill our upstairs neighbor…

Here’s the rest of the Top 10: #3 Underworld ($9.4m); #4 Secondhand Lions ($8.3m); #5 The Fighting Temptations ($6.5m); #6 Once Upon a Time in Mexico ($5.1m); #8 Cold Creek Manor/Matchstick Men ($4.3m); #10 Lost In Translation ($3.5m).
