LAUNCH: BILLIONS AND BILLIONS

Launch has streamed more than a billion videos this year—that’s almost four times as many as the first 10 months of 2002. It’s not, however, one billion separate videos. Launch, which is the music destination of Yahoo!, has a library of more than 7,000 videos, none of which feature hot girl-on-girl action or farm animals, making that billion number all the more impressive.

On second thought, Launch recently had the exclusive online debut of Britney Spears’ “Me Against the Music,” featuring Madonna, so there is a little girl-on-girl action—almost. The Spears video was streamed more than 2 million times in the first five days it was offered, and not just by lonely guys in their parents’ basement.

This year Launch has premiered more than 40 videos, from the likes of Jennifer Lopez, 50 Cent, Radiohead, Linkin Park and Black-Eyed Peas, sometimes before they were even available on the TV.

Said VP/GM for Music at Yahoo! David Goldberg: “As teens and young adults increasingly turn to the Internet as their medium of choice, we feel there’s great potential for them to turn to Launch for the music video content that they would normally get on television. We are dedicated to giving music fans a great user experience on Launch and will continue to provide them with access to the videos they want, when they want them. Now if only there was a way to get music that way.”

Launch also has a section for live performances and interviews, which you probably noticed when you went there to watch the Britney video just now.
