"Tom’s amazing track record speaks for itself. I have the greatest respect for people who take a creative approach to promotion, and no one exemplifies that better than Tom. He’s aggressive, smart, inventive, and he knows music as well as anyone I’ve met."
——Craig Lambert, Sr. VP Promotion, MCA

MAFFEI'S THE MAN AT MCA

Veteran Promo Exec Named VP Crossover by Sr. VP Promotion Lambert

He’s now the top "priority" at MCA’s Crossover promotion department.

Veteran promo exec Tom Maffei "Oso" has been appointed Vice President of Crossover Promotion for MCA Records by the label’s Sr. VP Promotion Craig "Roast Rack of" Lambert.

In this new Santa Monica-based post, Maffei will oversee national promotion efforts at the Rhythm Crossover format, supervise MCA’s newly installed crossover team and tell Lambert he gets better-looking every day.

The L.A. native most recently served as Sr. VP Promotion for Priority Records, where he kept Bryan Turner’s pucks on ice. Prior to that, he was Arista Records’ VP Crossover for three years under Clive Davis, who told him how he invented the concept of "crossover." He also held a similar post at Elektra Records.

Commented Lambert: "Tom’s amazing track record speaks for itself. I have the greatest respect for people who take a creative approach to promotion, and no one exemplifies that better than Tom. He’s aggressive, smart, inventive and he knows music as well as anyone I’ve met. We’re a better department and a better company now because of him. At least that’s what his attorney told me."

Added Maffei: "Having a separate crossover department marks a whole new direction for the company and will certainly give our artists greater opportunities. Our team is definitely composed of the right people at the right time. There are some incredible artists on the MCA roster, all of whom deserve increased exposure through crossing their records over as effectively as possible. And I can’t wait to take them all on a field trip to see Gloria Gaynor at Rage."

Reporting to Maffei will be National Directors of Crossover Promotion "Say" Amon "Somebody" Parker in L.A., Houston-based Charles "In Charge" Chavez and N.Y.-based Marilyn "Ooh La" LaCointre.
