——Benjamin Brafman on Burrowes' accusations against his client Sean Combs

POST CLAIMS DIDDY FINGERED AS TUPAC SUSPECT BY FORMER ASSOCIATE

Rap Mogul Implicated by Testimony in Deaths of Rapper and Suge Knight Bodyguard
You can always count on the N.Y. Post to enliven an otherwise dead Friday.

Our favorite tabloid reported that Kirk Burrowes, a former business partner of Sean Combs, has implicated the rap entrepreneur in the 1995 murder of rival Suge Knight's bodyguard and of ordering the hit on slain rapper Tupac Shakur.

In court testimony, Burrowes, the godfather of one of Combs' sons and an ex-President of his Bad Boy Entertainment, made the claims as part of a $25 million suit in Manhattan federal court.

Burrowes claims the Artist Now Known as P. Diddy set up an enterprise of "thuggish associates to gain power, recognition, fame and financial gain through acts and threats involving murder, mayhem and extortion."

Sounds like the record business to us.

In a sworn legal document, Burrowes claims, "With the consent, approval and ratification of the enterprise, Suge Knight's chief bodyguard Jai Hassan (Big Jake) was murdered in 1995."

And you thought it was something he ate.

A local deputy sheriff in Atlanta, who was later killed in a "mysterious car accident," identified Combs' advance man, a convicted felon named Anthony Jones, as the shooter of Suge's bodyguard.

Burrowes, who claimed he enjoyed a "close, family-like relationship" with Combs before they fell out, launched the legal action in June, claiming Diddy cheated him out of $25 million, threatened him with a baseball bat and later spiked his management deal with Mary J. Blige. He also insisted that Bad Boy Entertainment was "suspected" to have hired the shooter who killed Shakur in 1996 in Las Vegas.

Combs' lawyer Benjamin Brafman called Burrowes' charges "entirely baseless" and "without merit."

Burrowes also accuses P. Diddy of presiding over a vicious attack on April 15, 1999, against Interscope Records exec Steve Stoute at his office, an incident widely reported at the time. He also claimed Roy Reid and Dante Dixon, a pair of Puffy associates, were directed by Combs to threaten and stalk John Bentley, a songwriter and owner of the Calidelphia Records label.

"This is one of many entirely baseless lawsuits that Mr. Combs and other superstars like him must contend with on a regular basis," concluded Brafman.

Diddy is about to go two-for-two with the second #1 album in a row for his Bad Boy label, now housed at Universal, as Making of Da Band is poised to debut at the top of the chart this Tuesday after the similar success of the Bad Boys II soundtrack.
