WEA-Warner/Chappell Vet Named President/CEO of Society of Singers
The man can croon a mean "Feelings" and that may be qualification enough for his new gig.

Industry veteran Jerry F. Sharell has been named President/CEO of the Society of Singers by Chairman Al Schlesinger.

The former executive at WEA, Warner/Chappell, MusiCares, Westwood One, MCA Home Video and Elektra/Asylum joins the non-profit organization, which works to advance the vocal arts through scholarships and offers comprehensive services to meet multiple financial needs of professional singers worldwide.

Said Sharell: "My passion for singers and their music, combined with my long history in the music business, has given me the knowledge and ability to help SOS move strongly into the 21st century. I really look forward to helping the talented people we work with prosper in the music industry and to working to make their lives a little better. Now, give me a C, a bouncy C..."

Added Board Chairman Schlesinger: "I have known Jerry for more than 30 years. He's a born leader and brings with him enormous talent and drive to ensure that SOS continues to benefit needy singers of all ages. And you should hear his version of fellow Pittsburgh native Lou Christie's 'Lightnin' Strikes.'"

Sharell was most was Director of Media Relations for Warner/Chappell and Director of Media Relations/Corporate Events at WEA. He was Sr. VP Talent Marketing at Westwood One and Sr. VP Marketing at MCA Home Video before that. He also managed the Asylum Records label for David Geffen. A former President of the industry segment of City of Hope, Sharell was Executive Director for the MusicCares Foundation, a charity started by NARAS.

The Society of Singers was established in 1984 by Ginny Mancini, widow of film music composer Henry Mancini, as a comprehensive human service agency offering servicesto meet multiple financial needs of professional singers worldwide.
