GROKSTER TRIES TO GO LEGIT

Peer to Peer Network to Launch Highly Targeted P2P Direct Marketing Tools
File-sharing program Grokster has announced the launch of its first suite of P2P direct marketing tools for content owners.

Through a partnership with FileFreedom, LLC of Charlottesville, VA, Grokster is now offering musicians, authors, filmmakers, photographers and software & game developers the ability to target market their content directly to individual file sharers around the world.

A copyright owner can now register his content and enter the Grokster community for as little as $10. Through a simple set of online wizards, one can build a profile (or a multiple of profiles) based upon age, gender, postal code and user tastes, and target market that content directly to those users. The registered authorized content, graphic, marketing message, web link, or rich media is "pushed" through to users via their Grokster/FileFreedom home page and/or at the point of download. The content owner is provided with real time data charting his campaign.

Although Peer to Peer networks are the world’s most powerful distribution systems for digital content, due to the network architecture, it has been impossible for the independent content-owner to identify or directly market his material to his customers or potential customers in any meaningful professional manner. Grokster is now targeting independent artists, authors, programmers or filmmakers as its potential audience. The company is based in the West Indies, presumably to avoid U.S. copyright laws.

"Grokster’s primary mission is to provide independent content owners with the tools to take advantage of cutting edge technology…to empower the artist," said Grokster Relations Manager Henry Wilson. "With our new marketing app we’ve uncovered the missing link that will make Grokster the not only a full service P2P network, but an independent artists’ haven."

No word whether you can also download the new Eminem album, but several music and film companies are currently suing Grokster for copyright infringement, with a preliminary ruling expected later this year.

Grokster presently has content partnerships with ReelMind ( www.ReelMind.com), J!VE Media Technologies Inc. (www.jiveplayer.com) and GigAmerica ( www.GigAmerica.com).
