Now, Billy Preston may have done some jail time, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t grasp the complex implications of what he was asking. To wit: Speculation to the contrary notwithstanding, the label arm of Wind-up Entertainment (which also packs publishing and new-media divisions) has extended its U.S. distribution agreement with BMG Distribution. The move had been expected (hitsdailydouble.com 2/20).
Wind-up chieftain Alan Meltzer and BMG Distribution honcho Pete Jones announced the extensions today after smoking the peace pipe and listening to "Space Race" for 16 hours straight.
"BMG Distribution has been an invaluable asset to Wind-up throughout the company's growth and development," said Meltzer. "I look forward to the opportunity to continue working with Pete Jones and his talented team of professionals. As Billy Preston once said, ‘That’s the Way God Planned It.’"
For his part, Jones stated, "The Wind-Up Records story has been one of the most exciting in the industry since Alan launched the label. BMG very much looks forward to continuing to play a part in their future. We’re very proud to be their distributor. After all, wouldn’t it be foolish of us to forget that ‘Nothing from Nothing Leaves Nothing’?"
