COOPER CLARIFIES

In Which the RAC Rep Goes On the Record About Off-the-Record Stuff That Somehow Got On the Record
Despite how it may have appeared to our reader yesterday—and it’s not often that we’re awake enough to post anything worthy of clarification—representatives of the Recording Artists Coalition are not going around letting goons like us in on the details of their ongoing, confidential negotiations. But don’t take our word for it—the following is a statement from noted entertainment attorney and RAC representative Jay Cooper:

“We are currently very far along in negotiations with representatives of the recording industry to formulate a workable compromise. We regret that an out-of-context portion of these discussions was disclosed to the public by an unknown source prior to being fully evaluated. It has been the policy of the RAC to keep these discussions private. We will maintain this policy until we have actual news to report.”

And if we knew actual news when it kicked us in the head… well, ’nuff said. The next RAC/RIAA hearing kicks off Monday in Sacramento.
