WEEK IN PREVIEW: EMINEM SHOW GOES ON AND ON

Interscope’s Motor City Madman Squeezes out Sales in Spite of File Trading, Piracy
It’s as dramatic a second week as you’re ever likely to see.

Well, it isn’t even technically a second week, since the first one was only a couple of days long. But it is the first full week of sales for Eminem’s The Eminem Show (Interscope) that the current HITS Top 50 Building Album Chart will reflect when all the numbers are in. And it’s looking like a real doozy.

Indeed, look for Show to win with some 1.3 million units sold for the week. That not only makes it the first and only million-plus chart showing this year, but the only million-plus chart showing for an album breaking street date. Pretty impressive.

Meanwhile, a couple of new records hitting the street tomorrow look like they’ll be vying for the following week’s top debut: Capitol’s Dirty Vegas and Arista’s Avril Lavigne. Each should sell between 50k and 60k—Dirty Vegas, of course, being "driven" by that Mitsubishi commercial (get it?), and Ms. Lavigne driven by being all cute and stuff—er, making some damn fine Pop music. Yeah, that’s it.

Speaking of Pop, our Top 40 rocket scientists contend that Kylie Minogue’s "Love at First Sight" will be the most added track at the radio format this week, with Alanis Morissette’s "Pecious Illusion" and Our Lady Peace’s "Somewhere Out There." Also look for early adds on Pink’s "Just Like a Pill."

At Crossover, it’s all about Noreaga, who goes by N.O.R.E. these days. His "Nothin’" is looking like somethin’, according to our big Crossover stethoscope in the sky, and should come out of this week with the most adds.

In the Post Modern and Rock worlds, meanwhile, three records are impacting this week, and each has a shot at most-added glory: System of a Down’s "Aerials" (which is already on at 31 stations but will certainly reel in more); Korn’s "Thoughtless"; and, speaking of glory, Newfound Glory’s "My Friends Over You." Watch ’em go.
