"He is a great professional who knows about the mechanics of the music business better than any executive today and will play an important part in helping me realize the full potential of our new structure."
——David Munns on Ivan Gavin

GAVIN NAMED COO
EMI NORTH AMERICA

Former Zomba Chief Operating Officer Tapped as Munns’ Main Man
Ivan Gavin "MacLeod" has been named COO of EMI Recorded Music North America.

In his new role, Gavin will work closely with EMI Recorded Music Vice Chairman/EMI Recorded Music North America CEO "King" David Munns, and will oversee day-to-day operations across the company and within its main record labels.

He will report directly to and serve as the key member of Munns’ business management team. Gavin joins EMI from The Zomba Record Group, where he oversaw all of the company’s North American business for Zomba Chairman /CEO Clive Calder for more than a decade during the company’s growth period.

In this newly created role, Gavin will oversee on Munns’ behalf all of EMI Recorded Music North America’s business operations across the company and within its main labels Capitol, Capitol Nashville, Virgin, CMG, Angel/Blue Note and Castalian as well as EMI Recorded Music Canada, with the label heads continuing to report directly to Munns.

His responsibilities will include, among others, human resources, business affairs, all the company’s new shared services, industry affairs and physical distribution activities including Caroline. In addition, Gavin will oversee EMI’s Higher Octave and Narada labels.

"I am thrilled to have Ivan join my leadership team in EMI North America," said Munns. "He is a great professional who knows about the mechanics of the music business better than any executive today and will play an important part in helping me realize the full potential of our new structure. I will look to Ivan to assume operational leadership so I can focus on the creative side of the business. He is a solid addition to the organization as a top manager and leader who will run the business day-to-day and inject control and discipline into our North American operations."

Gavin added, "I have great respect for Alain Levy and David Munns, true music executives who are among the best in the business, having recreated an organization that is not only equipped to deal with change, but that has the guts to re-invent the way the music industry does business. I am excited to join EMI at a time when, with its recent infrastructure changes and modifications, the company is poised to leverage its creativity while continuing to nurture its entrepreneurial spirit in North America. I look forward to working closely with David as well as some of the best label executives in the industry in order to bring EMI to the next level."
