Yusuf Denounces, Hatch Writes, Liam Stops Flying, J.Lo Performs…All While You Wait

CLIMB ABOARD THE PEACE TRAIN
Yusuf Islam
, the former Cat Stevens, has strongly denounced the terrorist attacks against New York and Washington, DC, RollingStone.com reports. "I wish to express my heartfelt horror at the indiscriminate terrorist attacks committed against innocent people of the United States yesterday," Islam said in a statement. "While it is still not clear who carried out the attack, it must be stated that no right thinking follower of Islam could possibly condone such an action: The Qur'an equates the murder of one innocent person with the murder of the whole of humanity. We pray for the families of all those who lost their lives in this unthinkable act of violence as well as all those injured; I hope to reflect the feelings of all Muslims and people around the world whose sympathies go out to the victims of this sorrowful moment." Islam came under fire more than a decade ago when the British press alleged (incorrectly, as it turns out) that he supported Iranian spiritual leader Ayatollah Khomeni's fatwa calling for the life of Satanic Verses author Salman Rushdie.

HATCH ROCKS!
Moved by the carnage of last week’s terror attacks against the U.S., Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch has set out to capture his feelings about the tragedy in a new song, "Americans United." "The whole terrorist attack has had him thinking about what has happened," said Hatch spokesman Chris Rosche. "And he's had a couple ideas about the song that he might dedicate to what has happened." Hatch has written dozens of religious and patriotic tunes and has seven CDs. He frequently collaborates with Janice Kapp Perry, a Utah composer who puts Hatch's lyrics to music. Earlier this year, one of Hatch's songs, "America Rocks," was used in the movie Rat Race.

NOT LEAVIN’ ON A JET PLANE
Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher told New Musical Express (NME) he will never to return to the United States, after last week’s terrorist attacks. "I ain't ... going to New York again. I'm never going to America again, man," he said. "I'm staying put. I ain't getting on a plane for a long time." Oasis' press manager claims that Gallagher's remarks were made in the aftermath of the attacks and would not affect the band’s future touring plans.

J.LO IN P.R.
Showing that she’s not afraid to travel, Jennifer Lopez will perform two concerts in Puerto Rico this weekend. "It's going to be something very beautiful and I really believe it's a show that comes from my soul and my heart," Lopez said Tuesday, speaking in Spanish. Born in New York to Puerto Rican parents, Lopez said she had wanted to hold the concerts in San Juan "for my music and my people." Lopez, who arrived in Puerto Rico on Monday, is to perform the "J.Lo" concert Friday and Saturday at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum. The concert is to be taped by NBC and will be shown in late November, promoters said.
