HIP-HOP SUMMIT EXPECTS
ROSEN RECEPTION

RIAA’S Hilary Is Down With The Homies As Summit Schedule Takes Shape
RIAA ruler Hilary Rosen has announced that she will indeed attend the upcoming, invitation-only Hip-Hop Summit, organized by Russell Simmons, to be held June 12-13 in New York City. The music-biz advocate will be joining artists like Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and Wyclef, politicians, activists and hip-hop heavyweights in discussing the state of hip-hop.

"Russell Simmons is to be applauded for his leadership. He will bring together this community to talk about critical issues," said Rosen, who will moderate the Marketing and Political Empowerment meetings to be held tomorrow morning.

Rosen expects her role will be to review parental-advisory guidelines, weigh in on pending legislation regarding music’s artistic control and guarantee royalty payments on any ditties hummed during the meetings.

The Summit schedule includes approximately four meetings per day. Tuesday’s first meeting, covering marketing initiatives, is restricted to invited marketing executives only. Press is invited to join members of Congress at the Political Empowerment meeting following, but only in the last fifteen minutes.

The afternoon’s events, including the Hip-Hop Media meeting and the Youth Roundtable are open to press and all summit invitees.

Day two will feature a statement of purpose from Simmons and a keynote address from the Nation of Islam’s Minister Louis Farrakhan—a speech that will likely be a factor, whatever its content, in the scheduled panel "Jews and Blacks: Let the Healing Begin."

These early events are also open, but the afternoon is full of closed-door meetings covering topics of artist testimonials, NYPD profiling issues and security concerns.

A press conference debriefing the summit and disclosing any solutions and initiatives the meetings may have produced has been planned for Thursday, 6/14.
