FATBOY SLIM IS THE "CHOICE"
FOR 18TH VMAs

Jonze Walkens Off With Nine Noms For Clip; "Marmalade," Missy, NSYNC Grab Six Apiece
The 18th annual MTV Video Music Awards show is all about Christopher Walken's soft-shoe.

The VMAs, which return to N.Y.C.'s Metropolitan Opera House on Thursday, September 6, were topped by the nine nominations—including Best Video of the Year—garnered by Fatboy Slim's Spike Jonze-directed "Weapon Of Choice," which features the actor's solo dance.

U2, who garnered five VMAs, including a Best Video nod for "Beautiful Day," and Alicia Keys, who received two nods for her "Fallin'" video, are the first two performers announced.

Fatboy Slim and Jonze previously nabbed three VMAs, including Best Video, in '99 for their "Praise You" clip.

Other top nominees include Best Video candidates "Lady Marmalade" (from the "Moulin Rouge" film and soundtrack) and Missy Elliott's "Ger Ur Freak On," along with NSYNC's "Pop," at six apiece. Five-time nominees include Best Video finalist Eminem featuring Dido for "Stan," U2 for "Beautiful Day" and "Elevation Remix" and Destiny's Child for "Survivor." Best Video nominee Janet Jackson received a total of four noms for "All For You."

The channel is touting this year's "VMA 360," promising integrated coverage on MTV, MTV2 and MTV.com.

MTV/MTV2 President Van Toffler says the convergence "will provide our viewers with a unique 360 of music that will surely make for a deeper connection to the artists and the performances. And it means we don't have to give tickets to you HITS losers."
