Yes, sometimes down does look like up to us, and in a funny kind of totally unrelated way, so does American/Columbia’s System of a Down, whose new album "Toxicity" appears headed for a #1 bow this week. Also strong is J Records’ Alicia Keys, whose "Songs in A Minor" continues its big run.
Also, both Afroman and Puddle of Mudd appear to be having solid second weeks, while Gorillaz is still going strong since its April debut.
Meanwhile, the two big winners in the post-VMA sales derby appear to be Missy Elliott and U2, both of whom are experiencing significant sales gains. Also drawing heat to their already hot selves are Linkin Park and Staind.
In PoMo-land, Lenny Kravitz will be Most Added this week, as "Dig In" does just that. Other PoMo hotties include (of course) System of a Down and #1 PoMo airplay rockers Nickelback. System is also the story at Active Rock, where it will chart Top 10 this week, as our crack staff soil themselves in anticipation of a Rock "Super Tuesday," with Bad Ronald, Ben Folds, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Nickelback, P.O.D., Slayer and Soil all streeting.
In Jamz, much atom-splitting over Aaliyah’s "Rock The Boat," Latrell’s "Dirty Girl" and Nate Dogg’s "I Got Love" (Elektra). Mixshow is feeling Jay-Z’s "Blueprint" in its entirety, with DMX’s "Who We Be" close behind. In Crossover, it’s all about City High’s "Caramel" and Faith Evans’ "You Gits No Love."
Meanwhile, the white-coated technicians of Top 40 tell us Enrique (without the Iglesias) will be the runaway #1 Most Added this week for "Hero." Expect strong starts for Train’s Something More" and Lifehouse’s "Breathing," as well as another solid week for Mary J. Blige’s "Family Affair" as it crosses from Rhythm.
