SUGAR RAY CONCERT TO DIGITALLY INVADE MOVIE THEATERS

Atlanta Show Launches In-Cinema Network Service; Is In-Cinema Moshing Next?

Cinema Presents, a company intending to show live broadcasts of concerts and other events on movie screens, is launching its service on Aug. 15 with a live Sugar Ray concert from the Tabernacle in Atlanta.

The service, called In-Cinema Network, will broadcast the show simultaneously on 44 movie screens in 21 states. Theatergoers will see the concert at a six-second delay, but will also be treated to exclusive behind-the-scenes artist interviews and bonus event coverage, including a vote on which groupies the band should bag that night.

Online movie-ticketer Fandango is selling tickets for the movie theater shows at $15 each, with an additional 75 cents-$1 service fee. This, after Ticketmaster offered to sell tickets for $10 with a $15,246.87 service fee.

"We hope this is the beginning of a long-term relationship," Fandango spokesman John Singh said. "It's a great way to see a concert that's geographically unfeasible to attend any other way."

The Sugar Ray concert will be the largest-ever live entertainment broadcast, according to Cinema Presents. The company is currently advertising the show in theater trailers and through radio promotions.

By the middle of next year, the In-Cinema Network will air live concerts, sporting events and other entertainment on 250 screens nationwide. Does this mean we can finally watch Wrestlemania on the big screen? Aww yeah!

"We'll show them [the broadcasts] on one screen per complex, Sunday through Wednesday nights, basically the nights when exhibitors need to put butts in the seats," said Cinema Presents spokeswoman Marcia Beverly.

Cinema Presents is backed by a host of angel investors, including heavy metal’s favorite singer, Pat Boone. The company has outfitted participating theaters with digital projectors and other equipment needed for satellite distribution of the live events.
