"To be able to follow up a huge week of Janet Jackson with a record as big as Destiny’s Child is a luxury we haven’t had in a while."

CHILD’S PLAY, THEIR DESTINY’S
TO TOP THE CHARTS

Stevie Nicks and Eden's Crush With Top Ten Bows, But It’s All About Destiny’s Child
We’d pop the champagne, but we heard that not all of them are old enough to drink.

Indeed, as Columbia celebrated their last album surpassing the 10 million mark, the girls of Destiny’s Child again towed the bottom line as their new one, "Survivor," dominated the field with a #1 HITS Album chart debut. With Ms. Jackson’s monster bow last week, retailers are definitely feeling the heat of spring as it hurtles toward summer.

"To be able to follow up a huge week of Janet Jackson with a record as big as Destiny’s Child is a luxury we haven’t had in a while," said Virgin Megastore’s Vince Szydlowski, who resigned from The Hollywood Reporter this week after the paper refused to run an article revealing that he’s George Christy’s lovechild.

"While both Janet and Destiny’s had huge singles, Columbia took full advantage of all the marketing possibilities at its disposal," said Szydlozzowobilitzsky, who will use the extra money to buy a vowel.

As dominant as Destiny’s was this week, there are some other notable debuts—like #5 Stevie Nicks (Reprise) and #6 Eden’s Crush (143/London/Sire), both of which showed impressive sales clout in Destiny’s universe.

"Eden’s showed the power of TV with a strong debut behind their ‘Popstars’ WB show," said Szyxjnloutnewski. "And Stevie showed how solid and loyal her fan base is after all these years." There is no truth to the rumor that The Hollywood Reporter’s George Christy is the sixth member of Eden’s Crush, but he does have a free ticket to all their shows.

This week’s Top Five also includes Virgin’s Janet at #2, Epic’s "NOW Vol. 6" at #3 and Curb/Atlantic’s Tim McGraw at #4. In other news, several employees at The Hollywood Reporter resigned after the paper refused to run a chart that showed George Christy has the #6 album in the country.
