DOG-GONE GENEROUS
The Backstreet BoysBrian Littrell was so grateful that Cherokee County deputies recovered his two Chihuahuas that he donated $10,000 to the Sheriff's Department to buy bulletproof vests. "Out of the blue, we received a check from Brian Littrell, who lives in Cherokee County,'' said Sheriff Roger Garrison, who showed off 30 new vests Wednesday (6/21). "We just wish that the guy had warned us that his dogs were armed."

ST. BOB
A statue of an archangel on top of a gothic cathedral in Norway was modeled after Bob Dylan, its sculptor said Thursday (6/21). "It's true that I was inspired by Bob Dylan and his features when I made St. Michael," sculptor Kristofer Leirdal, 85, told the Norwegian daily Adressavisen, confirming years of speculation. "I saw [Dylan] as a representative of American opposition to the Vietnam war, and I thought it was appropriate to have a great poet on top of the tower." When reached for comment, Dylan said something… but it could not be interpreted.

SHOULDERING THE BLAME
Bad Religion drummer Bobby Schayer has been forced into retirement with what is being described by the band as a "career-ending injury that has left [the band] stunned and greatly saddened." The punk group has canceled its upcoming European tour and will now focus on finding a replacement for the recording of its next album. "Bobby's shoulder is shot. It is a rotator problem," Bad Religion frontman Greg Graffin told Launch. "I mean it’s shot… We’re not sure if it was the guys in Rancid, Green Day or Pennywise that pulled the trigger, but punk rock is very competitive."

WHO WANTS TO GO TO SIX FLAGS?
Shock rocker Marilyn Manson took the stage at Mile High Stadium Thursday night (6/21) after protesters failed in a months long campaign to keep him away. Citizens for Peace and Respect said Manson encourages the kind of violent attitudes that led to the 1999 Columbine High School shootings. Manson had canceled an appearance in Denver after the massacre and hadn’t performed in Colorado since. Citizens for Peace and Respect passed out Christian literature earlier Thursday as concertgoers entered the stadium for the daylong Ozzfest. The group tried to dissuade people from attending the concert and held an alternative event, called Hopefest, at Six Flags Elitch Gardens across Interstate 25 from Mile High. "I’m not sure why people aren’t just crossing the highway to check out Hopefest," said Jeff Vandenberg of Citizens for Peace and Respect. "I guess kids these days just aren’t interested in jugglers, non-denominational clowns and the uplifting music of Ann Murray."
