PUBLISHERS LISTEN TO
LICENSING DEAL

Listen.com to Pay NMPA a Cool Half Million
Over Two Years
Listen.com has inked a licensing agreement with major music publishers for songs to be made available on the Rhapsody subscription service it plans to launch Dec. 3.

Under the deal, Listen will pay the National Music Publishers' Association’s Harry Fox Agency licensing arm a $500,000 advance for use of its clients' music over two years until rates are determined.

If no standardized royalty rate for online music services is set within two years, Listen will pay a monthly advance of $31,250 thereafter.

If one is set, royalties will be paid retroactively or Listen will pay monthly fees after two years until the rates are set.
