TECH ROUNDUP: GIT ALONG,
LITTLE DOGIES!

Loudeye, Intertainer And A Buncha Geeky Gear? Yeeee-hawwww, Boys!

LOUDEYE LOVES WELD
Loudeye Technologies, the Seattle-based music encoder/infrastructure company in the news recently for its licensing deals with the Big Five for the song samples it provides to online retailers, today announced the ascension of David Weld, Sr. VP/GM of Loudeye’s digital media services group, to the position of President and COO. He will report to Loudeye’s CEO, John T. Baker. "David is a seasoned operating executive with a solid track record in managing high growth technology companies," Baker said. "His promotion will allow me to be more externally focused, as well as to get my dry cleaning on time and a fresh mocha frappuccino every hour."

INTERTAINER TO DEVELOP BRAND
Intertainer, an "entertainment on-demand broadband network," has named Stephen Condon Sr. Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer. Condon’s Marketing experience includes stints at such top-shelf ad agencies as J. Walter Thompson, Chiat/Day and Campbell-Ewald, where he supervised the agency’s launch campaign for DirecTV. All of which makes it a good thing that he’ll be in charge of Intertainer’s brand development, since we aren’t quite sure who they are or what they do.

FEEL THE BURN
Roxio, Verbatim and Fellowes—sorta the techie version of the Three Musketeers—announced today that they are partnering to promote legal CD burning as an integral part of music subscription and distribution services. The partnership would bring together the makers of CD-RW drives (Verbatim) with burning software (Roxio) and label-making software (Fellowes) under the Roxio’s BurnPak! name. The BurnPak would package, for a limited time, a recordable CD and sample label sheet in boxes of Roxio’s best-selling CD burning software, Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum (Windows) and Toast 5 Titanium (Mac). "Roxio’s goal is to enable consumers to legally download and record music to CD in a consumer-friendly manner," said Roxio’s palindromic CEO/President Chris Gorog, who then reminded the press corps that burning software doesn’t infringe on copyrights—consumers do.

SOFTWARE TIMOTHY LEARY WOULD LOVE
Sonic Foundry announced the release of three new music-creation software packages. New features on the ACID DJ 3.0 and ACID Techno 3.0 include over 600 royalty-free, genre-specific loops, more volume and panning control and new input and output formats, adding support for Windows Media 7.0, Real Audio 8.0 and Perfect Clarity Audio. ACID Music 3.0 lists for $99.95, while ACID DJ 3.0 and ACID Techno 3.0 list for $59.95. All three software packages are available in blotter and tablet form.
