ELTON JOHN TAKES STOCK
Sir Elton John
is inviting fans to outdo him in stock picking. John has joined CNBC and MSN Money for the MSN Money AIDS Market Challenge, where visitors can compete with John in a virtual stock-picking contest. Entrants register then select up to fours stocks to compete with John and other portfolios. The virtual portfolios won’t make any money, but for each entrant, Microsoft will donate 50 cents to the Elton John AIDS Foundation to help increase awareness about HIV/AIDS. A winner will be determined based on the stock performances from October 2 – October 17, to be flown to Singapore for an Elton John concert, plus, they’ll get $500 spending cash. CNBC hopes the challenge will help teach and encourage those timid about investing, as well as those timid about Elton John.

BUT WON’T THIS THREATEN TICKET SALES
In the midst of a national tour, rockers Crystal Method are headlining at Warner Bros. Online. The site features the band’s full-length concert performance at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater, and also includes behind-the-scenes interviews. The Crystal Method performance is the latest addition to Warner Bros. Online’s Live Concert Series, which includes concert performances from Radiohead, Static X, Likin Park and Lil’ Mo, among others posted on the website. By the way, the band's name has nothing to do with drugs. And neither does that smoke coming from Trakin's office.

YAHOO PUSHIN’ UP JAY-Z
Hardly satisfied with his Source Awards Artist of the Year title, Jay-Z has been named Yahoo! Music Artist of the Month. The honor comes in front of the release of his new album "The Blueprint," which hits September 18. As the A-to the Izzo-T-M (as cats on the street call it), Yahoo will highlight the Jigga for the entire month and offer downloadable music and videos, merchandise, online chats, lyrics, tour dates, music news and albums and singles of, from and about Jay-Z. Plus, fans get the chance to win Jay-HOVA’s leather jacket. In a related story, another thousand kids asked their mommies this week to tell them what "big pimpin'" means.

"ABSOLUTE ZERO" DOES THE MATH
GetMusic
has launched the third season of the animated comedy "Absolute Zero." The web show chronicles the trails and adventures of Nordic host Hvita and her puffin sidekick, Ozzy. The season opener features Missy Elliott, whom Hvita goes to for advice. The series airs Thursdays on the GetMusic. Future episodes will feature acts including NSYNC, Staind and Slipknot. In a related story, our own Murphy has a puffin sidekick, too, but it drinks bourbon and is really, really angry.
