FULLAUDIO IN TUNE WITH EMI

Sub Service Inks Licensing Deal With First Major Label, Sees First Sunset, Kisses First Boy
Online subscription service FullAudio has signed a non-exclusive licensing deal with EMI for the U.S. and Canada, marking the first time a major label has licensed its content to a third-party download subscription service.

Financial terms of the pact, which is expected to be officially announced today (7/16), were not disclosed. The cost of using FullAudio's service has also not yet been made public, and it is unclear how many EMI songs will actually be offered when the subscriber bows. FullAudio plans to launch within three months.

The deal comes on the heels of a licensing agreement the startup inked with EMI Music Publishing last month (hitsdailydouble.com, 6/25).

FullAudio hopes to sign at least one more major label prior to its debut. It already has a licensing agreement in place with BMG Music Publishing (hitsdailydouble.com, 6/13), and insiders said BMG would likely be the next major to sign on.

The company plans to provide a platform for music downloads that would allow files to be kept in subscribers’ computers and accessed for as long as subscribers pay the monthly fee. Sources indicate the monthly service fee will be less than $20.
