U.S.A. DOMINATES MTV EUROPE MUSIC AWARDS

Limp Bizkit Takes Home Three, While Other Winning Yanks Send Thanks
The MTV Europe Music Awards were awarded today in Frankfurt, Germany, with a number of award recipients sending their thanks via satellite or tape on the live broadcast, seen in the U.S. on MTV2. The show will air again on MTV.

Limp Bizkit limped away as the night's big winner, snagging three of the awards: Best Group, Best Album and Best Website. Robbie Williams snagged the honor for Best Male Singer and sent thanks in videotape form from his tour in Australia. Williams won the Best Song award at last year's show, so he's no stranger to the MTVE Music Awards, though we Yanks find the awards rather peculiar. After all, this year it was U.S.A. all the way in nominations for best hip-hop and almost all the noms for best rock, R&B and pop.

Along with Bizkit, statesider Jennifer Lopez took the trophy for Best Female singer and sent her love from her home via satellite. She was expected at the awards, but opted to stay home after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States. Another video message came from Eminem, who was filming his movie debut and sent thanks on video after winning the Best Hip-Hop Act.

Other big winners include U.K. group Gorillaz for Best Dance and Best Song; Craig David, who won the Best R&B award and Best UK/Ireland act; Dido won Best New Act; and Blink-182 won Best Rock Act. Performers included Kylie Minogue, U2, R.E.M., Depeche Mode and Dido, among others.

Winners were selected by record executives and MTV viewers.
