MUSIC ROUNDUP: KOCH, CLEAR CHANNEL, MORE

Stuff People With Money Do For More Money
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-haw!! These semi-music-related tidbits’ll getcher juices flowing! Or your snores snortling, anyway. Goodnight, sweet prince.

KOCH MUSIC PUBLISHING
"Here we grow again," say those kooky folks at KOCH, as the company reveals the formation of KOCH Music Publishing. KOCH Entertainment President Bob Frank has named former Arc Music Group VP Bernadette Gorman to run the operation. "We have no doubt that we’ll be able to build one of the premier independent publishing companies in the world," Frank says. Adds Gorman, "Our goals are to sign KOCH recording recording artists as writers. We are also pursuing outside artists. Another opportunity we have is to sign artists represented by KOCH International, our distribution company. As well as suing the shit out of Napster and any and all Internet outlaws within reach of our high-priced team of lawyers, of course." The company says KOCH Music Publishing will operate on a worldwide level, and that it hopes to be known as "an alternative to the major music publishing corporations." Rumors that artists signed to the company will be required to spell their names in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS were unconfirmed as of this posting.

SFX CONSULTANCIES = CMI. THAT CLEAR?
It was announced today that several marketing consultancies owned by broadcasting megalith Clear Channel’s wholly owned live entertainment megalith, SFX, have been consolidated under the brand name CMI. The consultancies in question are "lifestyle event marketing" agency and consolidated group namesake CMI, motor sports marketing and public relations agency SFX/Cotter Group and sports and entertainment consulting agency SFX Corporate Consulting. According to a release, the new CMI group will be a "full-service, fully integrated brand communications agency capable of effectively connecting brands with consumers in non-traditional, highly interactive ways." No word yet if the foregoing means CMI will actually be promoting halftime shows at high school football games in Dubuque, but we’ll keep you posted. The new CMI will be led by GM David Paro, formerly SVP of SFX Corporate Consulting.

MUSICAL DO-GOODERS UPDATE
A pair of high-profile superstars, the veritable life-blood of the industry, are opening their hearts–and their pocketbooks–in the name of worthy causes. Pop icon Janet Jackson, whose recently released "All for You" (Virgin) is currently selling like hotcakes in the Top 10, has said she will donate a portion of the proceeds from her "All for You Tour 2001," which begins July 5 in Vancouver, to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. "These children are our future," Jackson said in a statement. "And they don’t have to meet Michael if he creeps them out too much." Not to be outdone, A.J. McLean of the Backstreet Boys has launched his JNN Foundation, dedicated to raising money for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The lone Boy will seed the foundation with $1 million out of his own piggy bank. The JNN name is derived from McLean’s pseudonym, Johnny No-Name, which leads us to ask why anyone who would use the name No-Name wouldn’t just go ahead and use no name. We can’t answer that, but we can tell you Johnny No-Name paraphernalia, including suits, fedoras and an autographed Hard Rock Cafe leather jacket, will be auctioned off on eBay to support the cause.
