More Probation, Suit/Counter-Suit & Drug News From America’s Musical Role Models

BUSTA BUSTED
Rapper Busta Rhymes was sentenced to five years' probation Friday (10/6) in Manhattan Supreme Court after pleading guilty to a gun possession charge that occurred in May 1999. The previously agreed-upon settlement stems from an incident in December 1998 when Rhymes, with manager Gerald Odom, was pulled over in Huntington for driving erratically. Police found an unregistered, loaded .45-caliber pistol in the car. After sentencing, Rhymes said, "I originally tried to convince the judge he was confusing me with LeAnn Rimes, but he wasn't buying. So, I figured I'd just fess up to it."

ROCK IN A HARD PLACE
Kid Rock's custody battle with ex-girlfriend, Kelley Smith Russell, over their 7-year-old son, Ritchie, has been settled. Kid Rock, known as Robert Ritchie in the real world, initiated the lawsuit in December when he sought child support payments, health insurance coverage for his son and adjustments in the amount of time Russell was allowed with their son. Russell counter-sued, seeking physical custody of the boy, who had been in Kid Rock's care for the past five years. In the settlement, which has yet to be approved, Russell has to pay Kid Rock, who has sold millions of records worldwide, $25 a week in child support and assume her son's health insurance. The Detroit Free Press reports Russell is an employee of the Ford Motor Co. and has excellent family coverage. In return she gets more time to spend with her son. When her son spends six or more nights in a row with her, the support payment drops to $12.50 a week. "Either the rock star really hates this woman or he wants to teach her a lesson in responsibility," an anonymous observer offered. "The $25 a week payments won't even cover his weekly Tylenol expenditures, which are tied to the $1 million a week he spends on coke, alcohol and groupies."

NOT ONLY THE AMISH ARE WARY OF THE ENGLISH
Troubled Christian music singer Michael English was sentenced Friday (10/6) to three years probation and 200 hours of community service for illegally obtaining prescription painkillers. English pled guilty Aug. 31 to 12 counts of fraudulently obtaining a prescription drug similar to codeine. He faced a maximum sentence of 48 years in jail and a fine of up to $120,000. The singer has been embroiled in scandal since 1994 when word of an affair with his backup singer broke wide, causing English to return six Gospel Music Association awards the night after winning them. English says rejection by the Christian music community is in part what led him to drugs. He added, "The fact that I'm actually Jewish, worship Cthulu and enjoy the high life didn't help either."

BUT WHERE ARE COREY HAIM AND COREY HART?
Given his failing acting career, former ‘80s teen star Corey Feldman has switched gears and now aspires to be a rock star. Feldman's story is a familiar one. After rising to fame at a young age with roles in such films as "Stand By Me," "The Goonies" and "The Lost Boys," Feldman became another Hollywood acting casualty. After his initial successes, Feldman made a string of really bad B-movies—his most recent being 1999's "Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger Part 4"—and had well-publicized bouts with drugs and alcohol. The Corey Feldman Band, his latest project, begins a 26-date club tour Nov. 3. Rumors that the band also includes Butch Patrick, Danny Bonaduce and Todd Bridges could not be confirmed at press time.

TIME TO REMAKE "D.I.V.O.R.C.E."
Garth Brooks and his wife, Sandy, have agreed to a divorce. The pair have been married for 14 years and have three children. He said recent difficulties, including his mother's death and his first break from touring in 11 years, has taken its toll on the relationship. "Sandy and I both agree that we need to get divorced," he said. The soon-to-be-former Mrs. Brooks is already complaining that she has to split custody evenly with both Garth and Chris Gaines.

WELCOME TO THE BOOM TOWN
Live Aid maestro Bob Geldof will likely to gain custody of the orphaned daughter of ex-wife Paula Yates and her Australian lover Michael Hutchence after striking a deal with Hutchence's family, British tabloids said. Yates, the mother of Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, was found dead at her London home in September, three years after Hutchence was found hanged in a Sydney hotel room. Geldof, the father of Tiger Lily's three half-sisters, was granted temporary custody of the child. "If he can feed a whole nation, he can surely take care of the child," British court reps said.
