Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child broke two toes Oct. 5 in a bizarre backstage accident involving a quick costume change, when the group was scheduled to open for Christina Aguilera. According to manager Mathew Knowles, Kelly was struggling to change in the dark when she fell over a ramp and broke the second and third toes of her right foot. While Rowland will continue her vocal duties on tour, 14-year-old Solange, sister of the group's Beyonce, will perform Rowland's dance moves onstage. "I'll never tell the girls to ‘break a leg' before a show again," Knowles said.

Country music singer Chris LeDoux is recovering at the University of Nebraska Medical Center after receiving a liver transplant over the weekend. The 51-year-old was diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, which blocks the bile ducts and leads to cirrhosis, earlier this summer. He had the transplant Saturday (10/7) and had been removed from intensive care by Monday (10/9). A spokeswoman for the medical center said, "The transplant went well and not once, not even when removing the butterfly in his stomach, did the patient's nose light up."
KEEPIN' IT REAL
Prosecutor Carl Marlinga said Eminem should get jail time if convicted of charges stemming from a June confrontation in which he saw his now-estranged wife allegedly kiss a man in the parking lot of a bar. The rapper heads to court to face felony charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon this week. Eminem could get up to five years in prison if convicted. A spokesman for the real Slim Shady said, "This isn't all that bad for Shady. All the best rappers have done or are currently doing time."
DO YOU SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS SINGIN'?
The World Wrestling Federation, home to Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock, is forming its own record label. SmackDown! Records will concentrate on hard rock and rap/hip-hop. The label's first venture will be a compilation CD featuring new and established rock bands released in conjunction with Sony Music/Columbia Records. SmackDown! Records is headed by President Ron McCarrell, who previously was responsible for all areas of marketing for the Windham Hill Group. "You'd be surprised," said McCarrell, "how similar George Winston and The Rock really are."
A NEW YORK MARATHON WHERE THEY DON'T MIND IF YOU TAKE A CAB
CMJ announced the showcase lineup for its 20th anniversary music fest in New York. This year's lineup includes Moby, Tenacious D, At The Drive In, The Go Betweens, Confrontation Camp (featuring Chuck D), Jets To Brazil, BT and many others performing at venues scattered about the greater NYC area—over a thousand artists altogether. The CMJ Music Marathon, MusicFest and FilmFest 2000 will be held from Oct. 19-22. Anyone found still wearing a laminate on the morning of Oct. 23 will not be allowed into next year's fest.
