The band is also sponsoring an online contest that will make a fan $1 million richer. has become the first major music company to release albums in ultra-high-fidelity DVD-Audio. The first titles to come out on the multi-channel audio format include releases by the Stone Temple Pilots, Natalie Merchant and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, as well as a selection of compositions by Beethoven, Strauss and Ravel. Upcoming releases include discs by the Corrs, Deep Purple, Metallica and Buena Vista Social Club. All albums will offer Advanced Resolution surround sound, Advanced Resolution stereo and compatibility with standard DVD-Video players. WMG promises to offer an attachment that lights your bong very soon.

PARTY AT THE PATENT OFFICE
The U.S. Patent Office has granted Liquid Audio multiple patents for its master quality lossless data-compression technology. With it, content owners can compress music for delivery and archiving while maintaining an exact match to the original. Former Windham Hill Group President Steve Vining has been appointed CEO of digital audio developer Euphonix, Vining's resume includes serving as Vice President/GM of BMG's U.S. Classics as well as a stint at ECM, where he groomed the Grammy-winning world music outfit the Chieftains. Vining has been recognized by Variety as a visionary executive and by Highlights For Children for having the educational mag's longest-running subscription.

Shira Perlmutter
has been named Time Warner Vice President and Associate General Counsel, Intellectual Property Policy. Perlmutter will be responsible for global and domestic policy relating to intellectual property issues. She served as head of Policy and International Affairs at the U.S. Copyright Office, was a chief negotiator of the 1996 World Intellectual Property Organization Internet treaties and advised Congress on the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998. Perlmutter received an undergraduate degree from Harvard in 1978 and a J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1983. In primary school, Perlmutter was a hall monitor and would snitch on classmates who chewed gum in class.
