ROSENBERGS RESURFACE
New Jersey popsters the Rosenbergs have struck a deal with Napster to promote the February 20 release of its debut album, "Mission: You." The disc will be shipped to record outlets in "bundles"; one for the Rosenbergs fan and the second "Napster" copy bearing the Napster kitty logo and a message urging the buyer to "share with a friend." Napster will also sponsor a month-long band tour, which kicks off February 15 in Raleigh, NC. Said Rosenbergs' singer David Fagin: "We love the idea of more people listening to and wanting to share our music. Napster made that easier online. With their help, we're making it easier offline as well. How many times have you popped in a CD and thought about a specific person you knew who would love the thing? Now you can hand them one right away." The Rosenbergs are signed to a recording and management contract with Discipline Global Mobile, co-owned by legendary musician Robert Fripp, but grabbed music headlines last year when they passed up a deal with Farmclub.com. The band was reportedly upset that the proposed contract included a clause that would force them to buff Matt Pinfield's head and eat Doritos off Ali Landry's belly.

SOMETHING'S BREWING
Launch has teamed with Qualcomm to develop their Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW). The application platform will help Launch establish its streaming music service, LAUNCHcast, for use with cellular phones and other wireless devices. The BREW platform will give Launch a standard application environment and eliminate the need to modify applications for emerging cellular phone models. Said Launch CEO Dave Goldberg: "We believe that the Qualcomm BREW platform is a major step forward for wireless delivery and essential for Launch as we move LAUNCHcast from being just terrestrial-based Internet radio. It allows us to have all the BREW we can drink."

REAL IMPROVEMENT
RealNetworks has tapped Larry Jacobson as its President/COO. Jacobson was most recently President/COO at Ticketmaster, and before that, was President of the Fox Television Network from 1997-'99. In this new post, Jacobson will oversee the day-to-day operations of the media-streaming Netco, reporting to Chief Executive Rob Glaser. Said Jacobson of his new position, "I believe we've only begun to see what's possible at RealNetworks." Jacobson also said he plans to utilize his past experience by streaming video clips of his date with a "Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire" runner-up as they attended "The Rugrats On Ice."

LOSSES FLOWING LIKE TEARS
Liquid Audio has reported less-than-solid fourth quarter results. During the period ending December 31, 2000, the Net music provider experienced a net loss of $10.6 million, or 47 cents per share, on revenues of $1.8 million. That's up from a net loss of $8.2 million, or 38 cents, on revenues of $1.3 million in the same period of 1999. For the full year, Liquid Audio had a net loss of $33.7 million, or $1.52 per share, compared to $24.2 million, or $1.15, in 1999. Revenues, however, did increase from $4.4 million from $11.6 million. did someone say, "liquidate"?

YELLOW WITH ENVY?
If you're the last kid on your block to hear Coldplay's brilliant "Parachutes" CD (Nettwerk/Capitol), don't fret. Thanks to the wonders of the Internet, and the promise of viral marketing, you can hear the album in its entirety. Just log onto http://www.buzzalong.com/vcards/coldplay/default.asp?who=unknown@email&level=111 and get lost in the dreamy melodies. You can even send it to a friend. And that's a much better gift than, oh, giving the clap.
