MYPLAY.COM PLAYS WITH 22 LESS
Sorry, that was a little overdramatic. But the music netcos continue to bleed, and MP3 locker provider myplay is no exception—the company laid off 22 staffers (41% of its workforce) today, leaving 31 operatives in place.
According to an official statement, the company will now be focusing on business to business efforts, though it will continue to offer its free lockers to consumers.
"We have regretfully reduced the number of employees at myplay to slow our burn rate and conserve our available funding," reads a communiqu from CEO/co-founder Doug Camplejohn. "We believe that this is a prudent move in light of market conditions and the current pace of licensing in the digital music sector."
Camplejohn's decree adds that the remaining myplay staff "will be focused on the company's new direction as a digital subscription company offering business to business subscription services."
