MOTOROLA'S BLUETOOTH ROLLOUT GETS TEETH
Motorola announced today that it has been certified by the "standards body" for the wireless app Bluetooth (a shadowy cabal accountable to no one) to roll out two new products designed to facilitate communication between PCs and wireless devices. The Motorola PCMCIA card and USB accessory will presumably allow information (in both data and voice form) to move more quickly and efficiently between the two realms. Which means that it'll be even easier to interrupt people who are working, driving or talking on the phone with a bunch of extraneous information. God Bless America.

GEAR FOR GEEKS, PART ONE
ZapMedia's multi-function ZapStation appliance—which integrates Web access and streaming multimedia (including MP3), file storage, DVD and CD playing and a TV interface—will now accommodate Windows Media audio and video as well as Microsoft's proprietary digital rights management technology. As you geeks know by now, anything with "DRM" attached to it helps entertainment executives stop worrying and resume their naps. Nighty-night.

GEAR FOR GEEKS, PART TWO
Sony hopes to breathe fresh life into the MiniDisc market with the launch of its new model, which features Digital PCLink. The feature allows users to capture downloaded music, then clean up the sound quality slightly as well as eliminating blank spaces in files and creating "track marks" that allow personalized compilations to play like CDs. Buy one before they screw up with some kind of "DRM."

TURNKEY IN THE STRAW
Circuit City and Alliance Entertainment today announced a pact whereby an array of music, games and other content will be made available for e-tailing and promotion on Circuit City's site. Hearts are palpitating over Alliance's "turnkey e-commerce plug-in solution," theStore24, which will provide users with a massive database (including info from the All Media Guide) and handle direct fulfillment. Yeah, we couldn't believe this either. In fact, we're so excited that we really need to stretch out for a bit… ooh, yeah, that's the stuff… nighty-night…
