YEEE-HAW! IT'S JOLLY DOT-COM ROUNDUP TIME!

Taking The Phrase "No News Is Good News" To Heart
GETTING BIG UPS AT GETMUSIC
Music media company GetMusic has upped Creative Director Lynn "Len Tomlinson" Thomlison to Vice President and Creative Director. Thomlinson joined the company a little more than a year ago, overseeing a site redesign for GetMusic.com just weeks after her start date. GetMusic, financed by BMG and UMG, had 1.6 million unique users in December, doubling its total from the previous year. Thomlison was previously at MTVi/Sonicnet and Sharp Electronics. "Lynn, together with the first-rate staff she's assembled, has brought GetMusic to the forefront of elegant design and navigation, while also leading the development of some of our most innovative multimedia programming," said EVP Programming and Content Sandy "Sandy Smallens" Smallens. "Plus, she redesigns her office every couple of weeks."

MP3.COM: SAVIOR OF THE BIZ
We couldn't make this stuff up if we wanted to: "Record labels interested in learning the secrets for creating a buzz on the Internet should plan to attend on of MP3.com's upcoming free ‘Promote Your Music' events. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to unleash the power of the Internet in efforts to generate additional money…" No word on whether or not motivational speaker Tony Robbins will be present at the hour-and-a-half long presentations Feb. 8 and 22 at MP3.com's San Diego headquarters. In other MP3.com news, the company launched an Asian division today, combining local language sites with digital music services specific to Asian markets. And you thought the band topped out with "Heat of the Moment."

DOWNLOAD DOWN-LOW
MP3 seller EMusic, currently trading at 53 cents a share, has hooked up with Hewlett-Packard to give HP PC buyers a free trial subscription with purchase of an HP Pavilion. The free trial includes 25(!) free MP3s. "Downloading music continues to be one of the most popular activities for PC users of all ages," said President/CEO Gene Hoffman. "I just wish that they weren't all over at Napster."

LIQUID USES THE RHYTHM METHOD
Dance label Strictly Rhythm has signed a non-exclusive distribution deal with Liquid Audio to use online retailers within the Liquid Music Network. The imprint, a joint venture with Warner Music Group, has a roster that includes the Vengaboys, Reel 2 Reel and others. Said Liquid Auido SVP Content Development and Label Relations Dick Wingate: "Strictly Rhythm is a first-class record label that has proven that it can succeed in a highly competitive marketplace by producing commercially viable and critically praised dance music. Now, if only tech geeks could dance…"

NEWS FOR PEOPLE WITHOUT CALENDARS
It's Black History Month, which means websites are paying tribute to the cultural contributions of African-Americans in the music realm. Sonicnet is devoting a whole area of the site to black musical artists, including radio.sonicnet, a special Internet radio station streaming music from black artists and spoken word and speeches from leaders and artists. Not to be outdone, CDNow will feature a pair of performers each day—a trailblazer and their contemporary counterpart, i.e. Jimi Hendrix and Lenny Kravitz. All of the artists featured will have their work on sale, up to 30% off for the month. Plans to pair up Black performers and the whites who ripped them off were shelved when Michael Bolton lost his lawsuit to the Isley Brothers.
