NSYNC, EMINEM WALK AWAY WITH MTV AWARDS HONORS

While Boy Band and Bad Boy Top Awards, Rage Bassist Nearly Topples Set
If you think "Soy Bomb" or Ol' Dirty Bastard's indiscretions at awards ceremonies past were intrusive, let us introduce you to Rage Against The Machine bassist Timmy Commerford.

During Limp Bizkit's acceptance of the award for Best Rock Video Thursday night at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall, Rage's Tim C.took the stage and climbed atop an unstable set piece, refusing to come down despite security requests.

The move halted the show for nearly 15 minutes; sent staffers and security into a frantic loop, and subsequent measures to remove the artist turned rather ugly. Following Commerford's non-compliance, security and police escorted him out of the venue. Well after the incident, sources said Tim and his bodyguard, who had both been allegedly "taken care of" by New York's finest and houses security, were jailed. No word as to their status at press time, but as of 4 a.m. (EST), they were still incarcerated.

Despite the commotion, teen favorites NSYNC proved to be the favorites taking home three "Moon Man" trophies—Best Pop Video, Best Choreography and the Viewers' Choice Award.

Dueling teen pop divas Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears walked home empty-handed, despite nine nominations between them.

Controversial but popular rapper Eminem, who tied NSYNC with six nominations, took home two awards, Video Of The Year and Best Male Video—two and a half if you count his contribution to Dr. Dre's Best Rap Video winner "Forgot About Dre."

While NSYNC and Eminem were the dead on favorites, MTV was sure to spread out the awards. Bjork, Aaliyah and Macy Gray each had two wins. Red Hot Chili Peppers, who received the Video Vanguard honor, also took home a pair of Moon Men for Best Direction and Best Art Direction.

"The Real Slim Shady," the first single from Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP," beat out Blink-182, D'Angelo, NSYNC and Red Hot Chili Peppers for the Video Of The Year prize.

Aaliyah won the Best Female Video honor for "Try Again," as well as the Best Video From A Film award. Gray was named Best New Artist and earned a Best Cinematography award. Destiny's Child grabbed the Best R&B Video award, while Sisqo nabbed Best Hi-Hop Video honors.

Other winners included Jennifer Lopez (Best Dance Video), Blink-182 (Best Group Video), Aimee Mann (Best Editing In A Video) and Bjork (Breakthrough Video, Best Special Effects).
