UMG MAKES ITSELF
HOME ON THE CHARTS

Distributor Holds First Four Spots On Chart, Six Out Of Top 10
With the fourth quarter gathering momentum for the stretch run, Universal Music Group continues to dominate the HITS album chart, led by the marketshare-leading Interscope label and the top four records, including #1 Limp Bizkit, which smashed the previous high for most albums sold by a rock act in its first week, topping out at more than a million.

In addition, UMG boasted Ja Rule's "Rule 3:36" on Murder Inc./IDJat #2, Nelly's "Country Grammar" on Universal at #3 and Ludacris' "Back For The First Time" on the newly launched Def Jam South/IDJ label at #4. The conglom also had six of the Top10 and seven of the Top 11, with #8 3 Doors Down on Republic/Universal, #10 98 Degrees on Universal and #11 Eminem on Aftermath/Interscope. DreamWorks' Papa Roach (#17) and Interscope's Wallflowers (#21) are also solidly entrenched in the Top 25. For the year, the label group has been hovering around the 30% mark for overall marketshare.

With upcoming albums from Roc-A-Fella/IDJ's Jay-Z (10/31), Interscope's U2 (10/31), Nothing/Interscope's Marilyn Manson (11/14), Cash Money/Universal's Juvenile (12/5), B.G. (11/21) and Lil' Wayne (12/12) and Motown's Erykah Badu (11/21), the rich just keep getting richer. Hey, just ask the Yankees.

UMG Chairman/CEO Doug Morris told Billboard: "Once again, this week's success shows the great diversity of the artistry within our company. And with our strong executive team, we look forward to continued success through the upcoming holiday season. And we'll be sure to put a lump of coal in each of your stockings, too."

Added UMVD boss Jim Urie: "Holding this many chart positions is a true testament to the scope of our music and looking at the albums in the Top 20 is proof of our commitment to artist development. We are proud of the success of our newer artists and all of our fall releases. And there'll be a little something extra in your paycheck this week to prove it."
