NYPD BLUE IN THE FACE?

Officer John Murtagh was on foot patrol outside Club New York when he claimed to have seen Jamal "Shyne" Barrow running out of the club about 15 seconds after a series of shots were fired inside the club. When he asked Barrow to stop and raise his hands, Murtagh said he saw a gun in Barrow's waistband.

According to Officer Joe Libraro, Puffy was hunched over in the seat of his Lincoln Navigator when police pulled him and his entourage over following an 11-red light chase.

"I looked into the car—I saw [Combs] bent down ... underneath the front seat," said Officer Libraro, adding that Puff Daddy's hands were not visible.

The officer said his weapon was pointed at Puffy at the time, prompting defense attorney Benjamin Brafman to suggest Combs was bending over to protect himself from police.

Sergeant Jack Konstandinidis testified that officers separated Combs, driver Wardel Fenderson and bodyguard Anthony "Wolf" Jones after seeing them confer with each other following their arrests.

Konstandinidis told the jury: "I see Sean ‘Puffy' Combs looking in Anthony Jones' direction—his mouth is moving. Jones is shaking his head, [indicating] ‘No, no.' Eventually he puts his head down and didn't look at Combs."

Konstandinidis said he did not see anyone throw a gun out a window and the Navigator's windows were closed when he stopped it after the pursuit.

The sergeant also said Puffy's girlfriend, diva Jennifer Lopez, tried to walk away after the vehicle was stopped.

"I said, ‘Jennifer, come over here.' She said, ‘I'm going home.' I said, ‘No, you're not,'" Konstandinidis said.

According to Konstandinidis, Puff wanted to know why Lopez had been arrested, and Konstandinidis explained that since no one had taken responsibility for the gun in the car, all four people had to be taken in. Combs then asked what would happen if someone admitted owning the gun, and the officer replied that that person alone would most likely be charged.

The sergeant testified that Puffy told him, "Deal. When we get back to the precinct, I'm gonna let you know whose gun it was."

A fourth policeman, Officer William Meyer, said he was filling out paperwork when Fenderson, told him he had something to say.

Meyer testified, "I asked him what was going on, and he said the gun was his." As Fenderson was about to be fingerprinted, he withdrew the claim.

"He told me that the gun was not his and he was not going to take the rap for anybody else," Meyer said.

Shyne has been charged with attempted murder following the fracas in which three people were injured. Puffy and Jones each face bribery and weapons charges.
