EMI GIVES SELF
"SATISFACTORY" GRADE

Group Also Receives Gold Stars For "Working Well With Others," "Attendance," "Grooming"
British music publisher EMI Group Plc gave itself a "satisfactory" grade for overall trading in the first three months of the year.

"We remain optimistic about our recorded music release schedule—which is stronger this year, and particularly so in the second half," said EMI Chairman Eric Nicoli at the group's annual general meeting. "We're confident that the momentum we've built in music publishing in recent years will be maintained."

The group's current British successes include former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft and London-based band Coldplay (currently at number one on the UK charts). A Perfect Circle and 504 Boyz were succeeding for EMI in the U.S. And, in Japan, Sheena Ringo was topping the charts.

Shares in EMI climbed 1.5 percent. EMI is currently in merger proceedings with Time Warner.
