SPRINGSTEEN EARNS $45 MILLION
ON THE ROAD

In today's wacky music world, older rockers prove they rule on the concert road.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band; Tina Turner; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young; and Kiss pulled in bigger bucks than more popular teen favorites like NSYNC and Backstreet Boys, according to midyear statistics released by concert trade publication Pollstar.

Springsteen showed he is still "The Boss," grossing $45.2 million from 38 shows and attracting 738,131 fans. (This does not include the final 10 shows at Madison Square Garden. Once those shows are included, Springsteen's figures will be north of $60 million.)

Turner, who recently announced her retirement, follows with $42.7 million after 49 shows and 672,308 fans. The reunited Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young were third with a $42.1 million take from 40 shows and an audience of 551,337.

Hard-working elders Kiss played 66 shows and attracted the largest audience of any act (802,510), raking in $39 million for a fourth place finish. The makeup-clad rockers beat out NSYNC, who pulled in 641,126 fans from 34 shows, by $9 million.

Other top draws include Backstreet Boys, $25.8 million; Ricky Martin, $22.9 million; George Strait Country Music Festival, $21 million; Luis Miguel, $20 million; and Red Hot Chili Peppers, $17.7 million.

Others that made over $10 million on the road include the Ruff Riders/Cash Money tour, $14.8 million; Britney Spears, $14.7 million; Korn, $13.7 million; Cher, $13.4 million; Nine Inch Nails, $12.8 million; Elton John, $12.2 million; Jimmy Buffett, $11.2 million; Dave Matthews Band, $10.7 million; and Andrea Bocelli, $10.5 million.

Obviously, ticket price played a huge role in gross results considering the discrepancy between CSN&Y's $76 average price and NSYNC's $61 average—about $15 less per ticket than the geriatric folk rockers, Springsteen and Turner.

Concert grosses were tallied from Jan. 1 through June 30 of this year.
