TONOS, RESTED AND READY

Music Veterans Take Their Expertise Online
April 4, 2000

Tonos.com: just another way to say, "I spent all my publishing money on the Internet."

The “music insider's network” and Web resource co-founded by the almighty pop writing/producing triumvirate of Carole Bayer Sager, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and David Foster, launched today with a patented recording application, a pair of song contests and advice galore for aspiring artists. The company is also funded by Sager's husband, L.A. Dodger President and former Warner Music Group co-head Bob Daly.

Combining its array of tools and high-stakes “challenges” with a mentoring approach, Tonos hopes to vault over the myriad generic music sites clogging the Net by giving would-be songwriters and performers the information they need—straight from the mouths of those most qualified to provide it.

Foster weighs in on “Demo Dos and Don'ts, “ while MCA soul siren Mary J. Blige offers tips to acts weighing contract offers in “Before You Sign.”

Users also have the opportunity to enter the “You Sing The Hit” and “You Write The Hit” contests. To win the former, they must impressively warble “How Do I Live,” the smash penned by Tonos member and platinum factory Diane Warren, Edmonds' Boyz II Men perennial “End of the Road” or Tonos hit machine Max Martin's Backstreet Boys chartbuster “As Long As You Love Me.” The “Write” contest solicits lyrics to match tracks by Rodney Jerkins, Foster or Byron Gallimore or original rock songs to be reviewed by Matt Serletic.

The “Tonocorder,” an interactive music application designed for the company by E-Magic, provides the means for users to record for the contests. Did somebody say "Gong Show"?

Tonos.com will also feature content from music gossip board the Velvet Rope and, for some reason, news from HITS Daily Double. But hey, nobody's perfect.
