VH1 GOES BEYOND THE MUSIC AND OVER THE TOP
Music video network VH1, which hit pay dirt with "Behind The Music," is adding two new series to its lineup that will take viewers through the trials and tribulation of music stardom.
First, the network will kick off the countdown series "20 T0 1" Monday (8/21) night. The show's premiere episode will feature the Top 20 of "Rock's Greatest Crimes and Misdemeanors." The episode will feature artists (read: hardened criminals)such as Sean "Puffy" Combs, David Crosby and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. Look for upcoming episodes counting down the Top 20 teen idols, girl groups and raggedy-ass music Web sites that try to pass themselves off as credible and pertinent industry news sources.
In addition, the video network will premiere "VH1 Confidential," a one-hour investigative newsmagazine, that uncovers the mysteries and urban legends of popular music. The show premieres Tuesday (8/22)and will focus on the "alleged" Kurt Cobain suicide, Charles Manson's record deal as motivation for murder, the infamous "Paul Is Dead" rock myth and the Bob Marley murder conspiracy. Sorry, no Robert Stack, but we hear the host will be dressed in a trench coat—and that always makes for some serious sleuthing. Unless you're naked underneath it.
