Creative Technology Ltd. has teamed with Microsoft to provide NOMAD II users with Windows Media Format support. Windows Media can provide CD-quality sound in just half the size of a MP3 file. Owners of the portable digital audio players can also take advantage of the one-click music transfer capabilities of the new Windows Media Player 7, allowing them to hear Sen. Orrin Hatch's new Creed cover almost instantly.

announced that it has released a single product that combines a PC music player with an Internet browser. The company, with financial backing from Intel Corp. and Superscape, has made the Mediadome player available free via download from its Web site. "Today you have to open a browser, launch a player, start the player and point and click to surfthe Internet," said Mediadome President/CEO Jay Diamond. "Mediadome offers you the ability to just press ‘play' and do it all with one click. Did I mention the name of the company? It's Mediadome." Diamond added, "It's so simple even a record exec could use it."

A MUZING
Entertainment product supplier Amplified is turning to Muze Inc. for song and artist data. Amplified's online store is set to launch later this month. Amplified will supply DVDs, CDs, digital downloads, custom CDs and song samples to online retailers. It's up to the retailers to provide the snotty, overeducated clerks.

Easy listening content owner Ernesto Cortazar was the big winner with $24,795. "Payback for Playback" is MP3.com's way of compensating content-owners based on the popularity of their music. THINKING OUTSIDE THE AUDIO BOX
A computer's life is one of loneliness, so European
semiconductor manufacturer Micronas has created a way for PCs to make easier connections with home stereo equipment. The company has unveiled Audio Box, a device for the convergent markets of home computers and digital audio systems. Audio Box supports all audio compression formats, including MP3, AAC, WMA and Real Audio, as well as Internet radio stations. Future versions will include features like Dolby Pro Logic. No word on whether it will open the pod bay doors, HAL.
