ANOTHER DAILY DOUBLE DOCKET

Guess it runs in the family. Bad Boy Entertainment performer Black Rob is the latest in a slew of rap artists to be arrested recently. The Puffy protg was arrested in New York City on Sunday and charged with drug and weapons possession after being pulled over on Manhattan's Upper West Side. According to a spokesperson for the New York District Attorney's Office, the 31-year-old Black Rob, whose real name is Robert Ross, and another man, Kwamie Thomas, were taken into custody after undercover narcotic officers spotted a handgun inside the car Rob was driving. Rob had apparently pulled the car over to sign autographs for fans when police allegedly saw the rapper pass a handgun to Thomas. The undercover officers called in a uniformed arrest team, who discovered the gun and several tablets of what was suspected to be Ecstasy during a search of the car. Ross and Thomas have both been charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to return to court on May 26.

Singer Bobby Brown was ordered Monday to remain in jail until a hearing is held June 19 on whether he violated his probation stemming from a drunken driving charge. Brown smiled and shook his head after Circuit Judge Leonard Feiner refused to grant him bond. Brown's wife, singer Whitney Houston, did not attend the hearing as she was busily playing a make-believe keyboard in an empty theater elsewhere. Brown spent five days in jail in 1998 and was placed on probation for a year after he was convicted of drunken driving in a 1996 accident. A warrant was issued for Brown's arrest last June after his probation officer said Brown tested positive for cocaine. Brown, who has a home in Mendham, NJ, was arrested May 10 at the airport in Newark, NJ, as he and Houston arrived from the Bahamas. He was then returned to Florida, where he has been held at the Broward County Jail without bond ever since.

In other legally binding issues, Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland and his girlfriend Mary Forsberg tied the knot on Sunday (5/21) in Los Angeles. We said "tied the knot," not "tied off," by the way.

And speaking of crimes, Max Martin walked off with his second straight songwriter of the year award at ASCAP's 17^th annual Pop Music Awards, held last night (5/22) at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. The Swedish songwriter-producer is responsible for such hits as Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way" and Britney Spears' "…Baby One More Time." Goo Goo Dolls' "Slide" was named song of the year, EMI Music Publishing won publisher of the year and Steely Dan's Donald Fagen and Walter Becker received the Founders Award from the performing rights organization. Awards were given to the songwriters and publishers of the most-performed songs from Oct. 1, 1998, to Sept. 30, 1999.
