GIACCHETTO A FLIGHT RISK

Financier to the Stars Was Apparently
Ready to Flee
Is this a classic case of life imitating art or what?

Embattled investment counselor Dana Giacchetto, who obviously did not see the final episode of "The Sopranos," was apprehended early Wednesday getting off a flight from Las Vegas to Newark, NJ, with $4,000 in cash, a doctored passport and $44,000 worth of first-class airline tickets that could have taken him to the Far East and Rome, federal prosecutors said.

This latest arrest comes just a week after he was booked and released on $1 million bond pending trial on charges he stole at least $6 million from his A-list clientele, which included rock band Phish, among others.

As the investment guru was shuffled off to a federal lockup in New York City, his high-profile client Leonardo DiCaprio, through a spokesman for the first time confirmed that the actor was among the clients who lost a significant amount of money entrusted to Giacchetto, reported the Los Angeles Times.

At a court hearing following the latest arrest, Assistant U.S. Attorney David Lewis outlined evidence of Giacchetto's "extraordinary" violations of the terms of his release, including alleged attempts to continue his business and withdraw cash from frozen accounts.

U.S. district judge James Francis IV revoked the bond of the 37-year-old and ordered he remain in custody, calling him a "flight risk."

The judge did not buy Giacchetto's defense that there was a harmless, romantic, explanation for the tickets to Rome. His lawyer claimed Giacchetto was going to propose to his girlfriend in Italy. Hey, bro, tell it to Big Pussy.

Giacchetto faces up to 20 years in prison on three federal counts stemming from his alleged looting of client accounts. And you thought ARTISTdirect stockholders had troubles...
