"I can’t imagine why someone would steal it."
—Folk legend Pete Seeger, on his missing banjo

GOT THE MUSIC IN YOU?

Don’t Worry, It’s Benign, Can Be Treated
And, In Most Cases, Cured

JUSTIFY MY TEN BUCKS
Since she made such a splash with her 1990 "Justify My Love" video release, which was certified eight-times Platinum, Madonna and Warner Reprise Video announced the Sept. 5 release of a DVD single of her latest clip, "Music." The song is the lead radio track off the album of the same name. The DVD, which is priced at $9.95, features two versions of the video directed by Grammy and MTV Music Award winner (for "Ray Of Light") director Jonas Akerlund. As a bonus, the DVD also includes special birth footage of both Lourdes and Rocco, also directed by Akerlund.

DON'T MESS WITH THE KING
Five former members of Elvis Presley's inner circle have incorporated the name "Memphis Mafia"—a name given to them by a Las Vegas reporter in the ‘60s—and are prepared to sue anyone who uses it without permission. "The Memphis Mafia name is known by millions of fans throughout the world, OK?"said Marty Lacker, who along with Lamar Fike, Red West, Sonny West, Presley cousin Billy and George Tan, owns the name. They incorporated the name in the early ‘90s. This may be news to non-name-owner George Klein, who knew Elvis back in high school and has held a Memphis Mafia reunion for the past nine years, to which Tan said, "If he uses [the name], he will get sued—bottom line." Members of the Gotti family in New York had a similar threat to pose to Tan and his buddies.

CHANT STOP THE MUSIC
A group of 12 classically trained men, inspired by 7th century church music are taking on the music of the 20th century. The group, called Gregorian, will see the American release of its "Masters Of Chant" album, already a Platinum seller in many European countries. Songs getting the chant treatment include Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters," Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound Of Silence," R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion" and Ultravox's "Vienna." Gregorian have established themselves as a hugely popular act in Europe, where they are a fixture on the annual "Monksters of Rock" super-tour.

IS HE THE CREEPY KID WITH THE BIG EARS?
Pete Seeger
, known for his song "Where Have All The Flowers Gone," has offered a $1,000 reward for the 55-year-old banjo he used to record the song. "I can't imagine why someone would steal it," Seeger said, echoing the sentiments of most of the non-hillbilly population of the world.

TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETS
The Island Def Jam Music Group has instituted Streetlabs, a new system to explore and utilize the Internet to find new talent. For the past six months, Streetlabs' Webscouts have been exploring the Internet in search of completely unknown and undiscovered new bands. This will give the label the opportunity to listen to music that otherwise would never have been found…and, as the Webscouts have found out, in most cases should never have been found.

THE LOST CITY OF ATLANTA
Atlanta-based rappers OutkastAndre "3000" Benjamin and Antwan "Big Boi" Patton—along with David "Mr. DJ" Sheats of the production team Earthtone III have founded Aquemeini Records under the Elektra umbrella, named for the duo's 1998 album. The label's first release, due out in the fall, will be "The Skinny" from rapper Slimm Calhoun of the group Dirty South.
