GOLDBERG STRIKES GOLD ON INTERNET

Goldberg inks deal with Todd Rundgren
Sheridan Square Entertainment, the company founded last summer by former Mercury Records Group chairman Danny Goldberg and C&P Partners, has launched ArtistEnt.com, a group of Internet sites offering access to artists and the original content they create.

Unlike sites that are dominated by e-commerce, ArtistEnt.com revolves around entertainment content that is personally created by the artists themselves. Each of the core artists involved with ArtistEnt will be producing a minimum of a half-hour of original content each week.

"With ArtistEnt, fans will be able to connect with their favorite artists on a whole new level," said Goldberg. "We are creating an online network and community that will foster a real, direct bond between artists and their fans."

Initial ArtistEnt artists are Sugar Ray, Rosanna Arquette, Peter Wolf and Todd Rundgren, who is often acknowledged as being the godfather of multimedia music who will maintain his own artist site using a group of technologies and systems he created called PatroNet.

ArtistEnt acquired PatroNet, the artist subscription service developed and launched by Rundgren and partner Eric Gardner that offers musicians an integrated Internet distribution and marketing solution based on paid fan subscriptions. PatroNet is designed to facilitate the direct underwriting of new works of content creators by consumers.

"The Internet offers what the traditional music industry cannot provide, which is proximity to the artist," said Rundgren. "For the committed patron, this not only enhances the experience of the artist, it increases the artist's creative opportunities through direct fan support."

Goldberg added, "PatroNet is particularly useful to so-called 'cult' artists who have an impassioned fan base but for whom the traditional record business is uneconomical. With PatroNet, an artist who would make nothing selling 25,000 albums, can be well compensated by delivering music directly to their fans."

ArtistEnt.com will also hold the U.S. digital downloading rights to Artemis Records whose current roster includes Kurupt, Steve Earle, Kittie, Warren Zevon, Cindy Bullens and the Spooks. In addition, Artemis Records administers Steve Earle's E Squared Records, Frank Kozick's Man's Ruin Records, a relationship with Antra Records, and the original soundtracks to "Once in a Life" starring Laurence Fishburne, and "Steal This Movie" a biopic based on the life of Abbie Hoffman, with original recordings by Bonnie Raitt, Joan Osborne, Jackson Browne, Sheryl Crow, Ani DiFranco, Steve Earle and Ringo Starr.

In addition, Stuart Shapiro has been named President/CEO of ArtistEnt.com reporting to Goldberg. Shapiro most recently was the co-founder and Executive VP of Woodstock.com and Firstlook.com, an Idealab! and Kleiner Perkins company.
