SPRINGSTEEN GIVES SCALPERS THE "HUMAN TOUCH"

Before Madison Square Garden Show, The Boss Goes On Scalper Hunt
That Bruce Springsteen is a real hands-on guy.

The New York Post reports that Springsteen, currently in the midst of a sold-out, 10-show run at Madison Square Garden, took his anti-scalping campaign to a personal level before Tuesday (6/20) night's show.

According to the Post, an hour before hitting the stage, Springsteen told tour manager George Travis, "Walk me outside." After putting together some security guards as escort, Travis and Springsteen—allegedly wearing a brilliant disguise—spent about five minutes walking around the venue. A reportedly infuriated Springsteen pointed out eight scalpers who were selling tickets to the show for as much as $500.

"He's intent on getting scalpers," the Post quoted Travis. "He doesn't want his fans to have to pay more than the ticket price to see him."

Since the Garden dates are Springsteen and the E Street Band's first appearances there in 12 years, scalping has been a big concern. To combat scalping, Springsteen imposed a four-ticket-per-call limit on Ticketmaster. Tickets went on sale in March for between $37.50 and $67.50.

Police confirmed that there were scalper arrests outside the Garden, but department spokespeople couldn't confirm that the arrests were made at The Boss' behest. Then again, New York's finest and The Boss aren't exactly on the best of terms lately.

Springsteen's new track "American Skin (41 Shots)," based on the Amadou Diallo shooting, rankled New York City cops who pressed for a boycott of the shows (hitsdailydouble, 6/13). The song also prompted Robert Lucente, president of the New York state chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police to call Springsteen a "floating fag" and a "fucking dirtbag" (hitsdailydouble, 6/19). He later apologized for the comments.

Security officers also forcibly removed actress Courtney Cox later in the show when she hopped up onstage and started dancing to "Dancing In The Dark."
