Netco Launches Pay Channel For Tykes, Expects To Take It Out Of Their Allowances
By Marc Pollack

MP3.com has been dipping its digital toes in the subscription-service waters and enjoying that refreshing, moneymaking sensation.

The high-profile netco claims it was positive consumer response to its Classical Music Channel that inspired the launch of its second on-demand music subscription channel.

The Children's Channel is expected to offer fairy tales, nursery rhymes and songs in multiple languages, with no limit on the number of times a selection can be accessed.

TCC is scheduled to make its MP3.com (www.mp3.com) debut in mid-July by initially offering over 50 albums of "no limit" listening for a $9.99 monthly subscription fee. MP3.com expects to add content from leading children's music labels on an ongoing basis.

"As a father, I am really excited that The Children's Channel will provide top-quality music and stories that can be enjoyed by families anywhere and anytime," remarked Michael Robertson, the company's Chairman and CEO. "I'm also excited that this is for kids, who generally don't know the ins and outs of litigation."

MP3.com's TCC will be the second of many anticipated on-demand subscription channels for the company. Other channels slated for release cover genres that include alternative rock, jazz, urban, world and others.

Heading the company's Subscription Division is Chris Montgomery, MP3.com's VP of Channel Development. "As with its Classical Music counterpart, The Children's Channel will offer flexible content management and administrative tools for MP3.com content providers," said Montgomery.

That statement would make a lovely lyric for a lullaby, doncha think?
