ON THE DOUBLE

Steely Dan Tours, Bosstones Meet Bosox,
Ivana Buys TV Guitar
Rikki, don't lose that scalper's number. After a 20-year wait for a new studio album, Steely Dan (steelydan.com) aren't wasting a moment taking their show on the road. After the surprising chart success of "Two Against Nature" (Giant/Reprise), Messrs. Becker and Fagen hit the road May 31 in Spokane, WA, and keep it up until July 29 in Dallas. They'll play two dates at L.A.'s Universal Amphitheatre (6/13-14) and one at Jones Beach in Wantagh, N.Y. (7/8). All attendees exhibiting male-pattern baldness get half-price tickets... The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are ready to step to the plate. The Boston-based group will world premiere their new video, "So Sad To Say," on the giant screen at venerable Fenway Park on April 11, opening day for Beantown's beloved Red Sox. The track is the single from the band's sixth studio album, "Pay Attention" (Mercury/IDJMG), which comes out May 2. The ska-punkers will then help the season get underway by burning in effigy Bill Buckner, the first baseman whose error helped cost the Bosox the '86 World Series to the Mets... Sisqo has enlisted rapper Foxy Brown for a remix of his hit track, "Thong Song," which will be the first single from the upcoming "Nutty Professor II" soundtrack. The album, slated to hit retail July 11, will also include tracks from Janet Jackson, Eve, Brian McKnight, Jay-Z, Ja Rule, Montell Jordan and Case. Sources say video director-turned-feature filmmaker Steve Carr ("Next Friday") is lined up for the sequel, which features Eddie Murphy as someone who thinks he can talk to the animals and is instead thrown in an institution. The red-hot Sisqo hits the road soon with NSYNC, who think a thong is something you wear on your feet... Our own Ivana is now the proud owner of the 1958 Fender Jazzmaster that Television's guitar hero Tom Verlaine played on the '77 classic, "Marquee Moon." The axe had been listed on eBay for $32,000 and was sold by ex-Bongo man James Mastro for TV himself. Ivana then traded the guitar in for a pair of soiled Fruit of the Looms once warned by Tom’s bandmate Richard Lloyd... The shellfish responsible for Mariah Carey's recent stay in the hospital has been traced to an "oystergram" sent by Celine Dion. The French chanteuse had previously shipped some crab claws to Whitney Houston, which the Arista diva blamed for causing her to miss the Oscars... "Antic Ocean," the third album from North Carolina band Jolene, is just out on their own label, Isadora’s Scarf Recording, distributed by Redeye; Germany’s Blue Rose has licensed the record from the band for release in Europe and the U.K. The band was most recently on Sire, for which they recorded "In The Gloaming" (1998), after debuting with "Hell’s Half Acre" on the short-lived Ardent Records in ’96. The bulk of the tracks that make up the new album were cut for a projected Sire album before the other shoe dropped. With its three-guitar front line (shades of Moby Grape and Buffalo Springfield, Jolene rocks with authority, but for the most part, "Antic Ocean" is jest real purty, as the Goggle Guy might say... Kevin Spacey is determined to avoid the post-Oscar career faceplant that has hit some previous Best Actor winners. "It's about making the right choices," said this year's winner for "American Beauty" at a recent cheese-tasting ceremony in Redondo Beach thrown by his mother. Inside sources have revealed Spacey's next project will team him with William Shatner in a hip-hop remix of "Rocket Man" for Clive Davis’ new label.
