EMI IS UP FOR DOWNLOADS
EMI Recorded Music will release over 100 albums and more than 40 singles as part of a digital download trial.
Recordings by EMI artists such as D'Angelo, dcTalk, Janet Jackson, Pink Floyd, Selena, Frank Sinatra, Spice Girls and Tina Turner have all been earmarked for the trial.
The downloads will be available for sale through major retailers starting July 1. EMI will work with its digital service providers to enable these retailers to initially sell EMI digital products in Windows Media only, in order to make the customer experience as easy as possible. EMI's suggested online fee for albums and singles will be equivalent to traditional retail prices.
The trial will begin in North America and is expected to expand to selected territories in Europe in September and to other territories by the end of the year.

EMI says consumers will have the flexibility to use downloads on home computer, to burn CD-Rs and to transfer copies to portable devices. The company will allow up to two re-installs of a download onto a computer system to cope with possible technical problems like hard drive failures. In addition, everyone who makes an online purchase will get a free "ILOVEYOU" computer virus for no additional charge.
