SONY MAKES INTERNET MOVE

Media Giant Wants Joint Venture
With TV Broadcasters
Sony Corp. is in talks with several television broadcasters over jointly developing content for high-speed Internet services and digital television, according a Sony spokesman.

The talks are part of a broader push by the Japanese electronics and entertainment company to develop new forms of entertainment that can be shipped over networks to homes equipped with Sony devices such as the PlayStation 2 game machine.

Sony officials have said they are interested in joint ventures with, or investments in, broadcasters. "But real broadcasters," clarified one Sony official, "not someone like Kathie Lee Gifford or Bob Goen."
