Biggest First Week of Year as Chesney, Apple and Pumpkins Debut in Top 10
When you talk about this week’s HITS Top 50 Album Sales chart, you may as well leave it to Bieber as in teenpop phenom Justin.

The IDJ superstar’s new album, Believe, debuts at #1 this week, with sales of 373k, the biggest total of the year, and highest ever for da Biebs. His previous high came with My World 2.0, his second studio album, which bowed with 282k in March 2010. Also, keep in mind, the kid sold 3 million singles, the equivalent of 300k in TEA, giving him a total of 675k. To date, Bieber has sold more than 17.5 million singles and 8 million albums in the U.S., plus another 7 million internationally for a total of 15 million worldwide.

Blue Chair/Columbia Nashville vet Kenny Chesney’s Welcome to the Fishbowl enters at #2, with a robust total of 196k, followed by yet another newcomer in Epic’s Fiona Apple album with another crazy, long title, which comes in at #3, boasting 67k in sales.

WaterTower Music’s Rock of Ages soundtrack (#4, +46%) and RCA’s Usher, last week’s chart-topper (#5), round out the leaderboard.

XL/Columbia’s Adele goes into her 70th week on the charts with 21, the total now at 9.45 million (#6), followed by Martha’s Music/EMI Label Services release Smashing Pumpkins, which comes in at #7. Last month, Mike Harris’ ELS unit had a #7 debut with Slash.

Syco/Columbia U.K. boy band phenoms One Direction’s Up All Night is up next at #8, followed by Roadrunner’s Rush (#9) and Capitol Nashville/EMI’s Luke Brown (#10).

Other Top 50 debuts include Five Seven’s Dirty Heads (#13), Anti-’s Glen Hansard (#27), Walt Disney’s Brave soundtrack (#33), RCA’s Walk the Moon (#35), Metal Blade’s Whitechapel (#43) and Legacy’s Paul Simon Graceland collection (#45), while Capitol/EMI’s Coldplay re-enters at #49.

The week’s top double-digit gainers include Walt Disney’s Let It Shine soundtrack (#32-12, +63%), YM/CM/Universal Republic’s Nicki Minaj (#31-21, +, +41%), Capitol/EMI’s Katy Perry (#39-29, +30%) and ATO’s Alabama Shakes (#46-36, +19%).

Warner Bros.Linkin Park and A&M/Octone’s Maroon 5 top the list of this week’s releases set to debut on the chart next week, which also includes RCA’s R. Kelly, Columbia’s Offspring and Maybach/WB’s rap collection.
