THE XX MARK THE SPOT IN U.K.

Young Turks/XL Band Debut AT #1, Followed by The Script, Dylan
The xx are making their mark.

The Young Turks/XL band’s sophomore album, Coexist, debuted yesterday at #1 on the U.K. charts, with sales of 58k. The band’s self-titled 2009 debut, peaked at #3.

That was enough to deny Phonogenic/Epic Irish pop-rockers The Script’s #3 from becoming the band’s third straight chart-topper, landing at #2 with 52k, thanks to their #1 single, “Hall of Fame,” featuring will.i.am.

Bob Dylan’s latest Columbia album, Tempest, the 35th studio recording of his remarkable career, debuted at #3 with sales of 36k. His previous album, 2009’s Together Through Life, debuted at #1 with 42k in sales.

Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto (Parlophone/EMI) jumped #20-4 after their performance at the London Paralympics closing ceremony last week, with Viva La Vida re-entering at # 56 and A Rush of Blood to the Head at #70. Emeli Sandé's Our Version of Events (Virgin/EMI) slipped #4-5 and last week's #1, the Vaccines' Come of Age (Columbia), dropped to #6.

Also making Top 10 album chart debuts were 2009 X Factor winner Joe McElderry with Here's What I Believe (UCJ/Universal) at #8 and the Pet Shop Boys' 11th studio album Elysium (Parlophone/EMI) at #9. French superstar DJ David Guetta's Nothing But The Beat 2.0 (Positiva/Virgin/EMI), a reissue of his platinum-selling 2011 album with six new tracks, debuted at #13.

With second-week sales of 70k, "Hall of Fame" is the Script's first U.K. #1 single, bettering the #2 peak of 2008's "The Man Who Can't Be Moved,” finishing nearly 9,000 sales ahead of 2011 X Factor finalist Amelia Lily's debut single "You Bring Me Joy" (Xenomania/ Sony Music Entertainment), which entered at #2. Ne-Yo's "Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself)" (Def Jam/Universal), which opened at #1 last week, fell to #3. Flo Rida climbed #11-6 with "I Cry" (Atlantic/Warner Music) and Taylor Swift moved up #8-7 with "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" (Mercury/Universal).
