COLD IS THE NEW HOT

Frozen Explodes With DVD Boost; YG, Foster the People, Pretty Reckless Among Top 5 Bows

Winter isn't leaving.

Disney’s Frozen is #1 on the HITS Album Sales Chart once again this week, more than doubling its prior week with 214k (+121%, making it by far the week’s greatest gainer). That number, of course, has been driven way, way up by the release of the film on DVD and blu-Ray. Cue the dancing snowmen and a frolicking Ken Bunt.

But on to new business; the rest of the Top 5 is filled with debuts. CTE/Def Jam/IDJ’s YG lands at #2 with My Krazy Life, scoring just shy of 60k, followed by Columbia’s PoMo rainmakers Foster the People (58k), Big Beat/Atlantic’s Skrillex (48k) and Razor & Tie’s The Pretty Reckless (35k).

Foster’s 2011 album bowed with 33k and just crossed the 1 million mark RTD; rockers The Pretty Reckless (fronted by Gossip Girl’s Taylor Momsen) streeted that same year with 9k and has moved 79k to date.

Columbia’s Pharrell holds on to #6 (-23%), followed by MMG/Def Jam/IDJ’s Rick Ross (-44%) and Lava/Republic’s Lorde (down just 10%). The Top 10’s only other bow is from Republic’s Enrique Iglesias, who hits #9 with Sex & Love.

Now 49, on the Now imprint—a UMG-Sony co-venture that is part of the UMe universe, as we may or may not have mentioned previously—rounds out the top 10 and dips just 4%.

Streeting today are RCA’s Shakira, a Johnny Cash set from Sony Legacy, Arista Nashville’s Jerrod Niemann, Capitol’s Kari Jobe, Epic’s Karmin, Republic’s Sage the Gemini and Warner Bros.My Chemical Romance, among others.

Next week sees the hotly anticipated arrival of Capitol’s 5 Seconds of Summer, who’ve been blowing up in pre-orders, as well as Columbia’s MKTO, Epic’s Chevelle and more.

We’d just like to add that we were, like, this close to winning the March Madness $1 billion. If only we hadn’t picked Duke.
